About Me
My passion is to inspire, support, and guide you to unlock your maximum potential, to discover who you aspire to be, and become the very best version of yourself. I love and thrive on my clients’ ‘AHA!’ moments when they glimpse their authentic selves, when they commit to living their values and decide to make a positive impact on their professional and personal relationships.
My practice, based on my personal experiences, tends to attract mid- and high-level women leaders and entrepreneurs interested in developing leadership skills, improving sales performance for them and their teams, and boosting their ability to set and achieve goals. I have a particular affinity and skill in guiding women who are determined to break glass ceilings.
My coaching represents the many pivots in my own career and life. I have embraced change after change with open arms. I know that change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and glorious in the end. And as your coach I can draw on my experience and guide you through your own journey.
A Road Less Traveled
I’ve been a change agent for women’s causes. In addition, I’ve built new enterprises both in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Along the way, I’ve coached and mentored scores of women in their careers and helped them achieve their goals to become outstanding leaders and successful professionals.
I enjoyed a long and illustrious magazine publishing career. I was part of the launch team of Ms. Magazine with Gloria Steinem. We redefined what a woman could be and empowered a whole generation and the ones after it to break the mold, to achieve, prosper and take their seat at the table.
I launched NewYork Woman magazine, which, for the first time, brought together the networks of smart, powerful women of the New York City in the arts, in business and philanthropy. I then went on to launch Mirabella magazine, which empowered women to embrace fashion in a totally new way and find their own style to give them confidence in all parts and decades of their lives.
Most notably, I started my own magazine company with MODE, the first Vogue-quality lifestyle/fashion monthly for women of size. MODE rocked the fashion world in two significant ways; it turned the cultural body image paradigm on its head and forced other fashion magazines and designers to become inclusionary of all women, regardless of their size.
Turning Barriers into Bridges
In my regular volunteering work at women’s shelters, I was surprised to discover that many of these women were veterans. In general, women who leave the military face intimidating barriers and have trouble adjusting to civilian life. More so than their male counterparts for that matter. This prompted me to perform a 180° change in my own life and pivot into the coaching world. I founded Operation Reinvent, a vibrant organization that not only advocated for women veterans but was completely hands-on, transforming through individual and group coaching, hundreds of women and giving them the confidence to thrive and to make their mark in the civilian workforce and as entrepreneurs .
I personally implemented Operation makeover programs, which literally transformed the women on the spot and became a very emotional bridge in their transition.
In the group picture, I am in the center in black suit with the military women who went through the day-long Project Makeover session as part of Operation Reinvent. You can see the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO2HWcV9ELM.
At the same time, my colleagues and I conducted 2-day Career Transition and Empowerment programs at Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Fort Stewart, and Fort Hood for service women who were close to their military service end dates. These sessions underscored the importance of on-going career, stress management and decision-making coaching. It was an experience that I found enormously satisfying and added new dimensions to my coaching practice.
Time well-spent
Now a widow, I share my life with my beloved Wheaten Terrier, Oliver who rules my home with an iron paw.
I am an avid opera lover, backstage Met tour guide and volunteer for the Met’s Access Opera program, which brings students from New York City area schools to final dress rehearsals to expose them to a new performing arts venue. I spend my leisure time traveling, hiking, in the gym and playing tennis. I’ve trekked to the top Mount Kilimanjaro (at age 55) and some of the higher peaks in Europe and Asia.
